A West Texas Summer

As many of you already know, we have moved to Lubbock, Texas.
This was a big change for us.  But it was one we were very excited to make.  I am big into new places and meeting new people.  Being in new environments, seeing the way others live, meeting and getting to know the lives of people I never knew before....I dig it.  A lot.

So here we are!  In the flat, windy lands of West Texas.  And to be completely honest, I love it.  The people here are amazing.  People here are so kind and polite, and they will go out of their way to help you.  And pretty much everyone out here is religious.  There are churches everywhere!  Talking about God or religion in a conversation is not unusual.  It is everywhere.  For example, our landlord, his wife, and two little girls are currently gone for 3 weeks in the Czech Republic on a Missions trip.  Oh!  And there is that two.  Everyone seems to be very involved in Families.  There are children everywhere you go and when I go places with the boys, people just fawn over them.  Both women AND men!  It really is a great place to be.

Since we got here, we've been up to some fun stuff.
And I wanted to share.

First, the following pictures are from the Critterfest held at the Science museum here.  (This museum is COOL and has a complete section just for kids 5 and under.  Very similar to the Children's Museum I grew up with. Love it.)  We bought a year pass, because regularly paying to get into the Critterfest would be about 1/3 of the cost for the year pass, and I knew I would come back with the boys.  It was so much fun to see Walker and Tait experience something new.
I wish I knew what was going through their little minds!

We also saw other animals and went to a Tiger/Lion show.  This happens once a year and I'm already looking forward to next year when they will be a little older and hopefully enjoy it even more.

For the 4th of July, there is a street fair that they hold in the center of Lubbock.  There are lots of food stands, live music, a kids area, and more.  We had fun walking up and down the street, and of course had to enjoy a brisket burrito. It was DELISH!!

We didn't see any fireworks this year (SAD!), but it was ok.
Such is life when you have little kids.
However, the celebration did not stop there!  On the 5th, we had a little party and invited some friends from the ward.  It was so much fun and there was a lot of talk and laughter.  And since there was a ban on fireworks, with some paint and fly swatters, we made some fireworks of our own....take that Drought!!

Like I mentioned before.  We love it here.  One of the greatest parts is our ward.  Growing up in Utah, everyone lives near family and so in their spare time, that's who they're with.  Here, almost everyone is on they're own.  Whether they're here for school or jobs have relocated them here.  And because of that, everyone reaches out.  Our Ward has become our family.  It truly is an amazing experience and the instant bond you feel with people is unique.
We feel extremely blessed and know we are where God wants us to be.
